Short answer

A Meta ad rejection means a single ad is not published because it breaks the Advertising Standards. An account restriction means the ad account, Page or business account cannot be used to advertise, and it has a much wider effect. You can appeal both, but the outcome depends entirely on Meta's assessment.

A Meta ad rejection means a single ad is not published because it does not meet Meta's Advertising Standards. An account restriction means the ad account, the Page or the business account can no longer be used to advertise. The two look alike but differ in scope and in how you resolve them.

Why do ads get rejected?

  • Misleading or exaggerated claims: unprovable result promises, "guarantee" language, fake before-and-after visuals.
  • Language that speaks to personal attributes: implying the ad knows something private about the reader, such as health, finances or identity.
  • Prohibited or restricted products: some products and services cannot be advertised at all, and some only with extra conditions or permission.
  • Landing page problems: a page that does not load, content that does not match the ad, missing business information or very intrusive pop-ups.
  • Image and text quality: visuals arranged in an unreadable or misleading way, fake buttons, excessive capital letters and punctuation.

Ad rejection vs. account restriction

An ad rejection affects one ad, and your other ads can stay live. An account restriction can affect your whole ad account, Page or business account. One rejection does not have to turn into a restriction, but frequent repeated violations can lead Meta to review the account as a whole. A restriction can be partial, such as a spending limit or some features switched off, or severe, such as the account being fully disabled.

How do you appeal (request a review)?

  • Open the rejected ad in Ads Manager and read the reason for the rejection.
  • If you believe the decision is wrong, use the "Request review" option. This usually applies to a single ad.
  • If an account, Page or business account is restricted, go to Meta's Account Quality section. The reason for the restriction and the appeal option are shown there.
  • Before requesting a review, fix the issue cited. Resubmitting the same thing unchanged rarely works.
  • Wait for the answer. Timing varies and the outcome depends entirely on Meta's decision; acceptance of an appeal cannot be guaranteed.

How to prevent it

  • Do not exaggerate promises or talk as if a result is guaranteed.
  • Do not imply in the ad text that you know the reader's personal situation.
  • Check whether your product or service is restricted under the ad policies before you advertise.
  • Make sure the landing page opens fast, gives the same information as the ad and includes your business details.
  • If you get a rejection, understand the reason first instead of editing and resubmitting over and over.
  • Protect account security: limit admin access to a few people and turn on two-step verification.

Frequently asked questions

My ad was rejected. Will my account be shut down too?

A single rejection usually does not shut an account down. But repeating the same violations often can lead Meta to review the account as a whole. That is why it matters to understand the reason and fix it.

Will my ad definitely be approved if I appeal?

No. Meta evaluates the appeal and the result is up to Meta. Appeal if you truly believe the ad follows the rules; if it does not, it makes more sense to correct it first and submit the new version.

How can I tell an ad rejection from an account restriction?

An ad rejection shows next to the individual ad in Ads Manager. Restrictions on an account, Page or business account are shown in Meta's Account Quality section and in your notifications.
